I think the bigger issue is that the EU is A) Is not providing as much support as it should be and B) They refused to provide peacekeeping troops if there was a declared ceasefire/End of war. The EU is leading the charge vocally but expecting others to hold the bag.

I think Europe sent an optimal team to work with Trump. To make a point of Russian danger Finnish Pres was sufficient. When silent Finns, after Russia attacked them and stole 20% territory in 1939-44, followed by 40 years of soviet "Finlandization, saying that Russian needs to be stopped now - the message is delivered. **As the tables were arranged at the vital Ukraine peace talks in Washington on Monday, places were made for Kyiv, London, Paris, Berlin and Rome—but not for Warsaw.**

Poland, despite being one of Ukraine’s most ardent supporters and a close ally of Donald Trump thanks to some serious defense spending that is slowly turning it into a continental military powerhouse, was conspicuous in its absence.

To rub salt into wounded Polish pride, Finland, something of a minnow in Europe, also had a seat at the table for the Trump–Zelenskyy talks. So why was Poland home and alone?

Part of the answer lies in the fact that, with the exception of Finland, all the countries that attended the talks were Europe’s traditional big powers. They may be plagued by problems such as soaring budget deficits and serious domestic political strife, but the U.K., Germany, France and Italy still pack considerable economic and military clout in Europe.

And that gets you a seat at the Trump White House. Being traditionally Europe’s heavyweights also allows them to fit into a Trumpian worldview that possibly sees the planet divided up into the somebodies and the nobodies; you do business with one group and ignore the rest.

Finland got a seat at the table owing to the experience it has gained from decades of sharing a long common border with Russia. The Finnish president, Alexander Stubb, has also managed to build a good relationship with Trump—both men are keen golfers—and is now seen by Washington as a key interlocutor between the U.S. and Europe.

But this does not completely explain Poland’s absence, as some of the answer lies within the country’s political structure.

Under the Polish constitution, foreign policy is divided between two entities: the government and the president. The government has the authority to form and implement foreign policy, while the president is granted certain prerogatives under the constitution, such as ratifying international treaties and representing the state on the international stage.

This leaves a certain ambiguity over who is in charge when it comes to Polish foreign policy.

This was exemplified back in 2008 when both the Polish prime minister and president turned up at an EU summit for an unharmonious game of musical chairs that left fellow European leaders perplexed.

All this can confuse those handing out invitations to important international conferences; do you send the invitation to the president or the prime minister, or do you just make life easy on yourself and not send one at all?

This situation, which can hamstring Polish foreign policy, can only really be fixed by amending the constitution in favor of one institution or the other, but this is unlikely to happen given that both government and president covet what power they have and will not give it up without a fight.

There has also been speculation in the Polish press that the absence of either the president or the prime minister in Washington perhaps reflects a deep-seated inferiority complex born during the decades Poland spent as a downtrodden European state under communism. This complex, the theory goes, prevented the Poles from lobbying effectively for a place at the table in Washington because they did not feel worthy.

Rafał Leśkiewicz, spokesman for Karol Nawrocki, the Polish president, however, dismissed talk that Poland’s voice was not heard in Washington.

He said that Nawrocki had spoken to Trump and European leaders ahead of Monday’s meeting to state the Polish position. Leśkiewicz added that Nawrocki will have ample opportunity for Poland to get its opinion on Ukraine and security across to Trump when he travels to Washington for bilateral talks between the two presidents on September 3.

That will be one meeting, at least, at which a Polish presence is guaranteed.

Because our leaders clearly communicated that we won’t be sending any troops to Ukraine, since we have to protect NATOs eastern front (be ready for things going south), that is our job. 

These meeting involved countries how want to do deploy troops to Ukraine or give some sort of security guarantees. 

Right now Poland can probably help a lot as a logistics hub.

Maybe the answer lies in why Finland **was** invited. President Stubb has a good relationship both with Trump and Zelenskyy, and Stubb is frequently in contact with both of them. Zelenskyy also trusts Stubb and Finland as a whole. Stubb also has no domestic powers but ceremonial, so he can pretty much focus on this one issue. Stubb and Finland are also known as very pro EU and stable foreign policy which is based on cooperation. Finally Stubb has a good relationship also with the other European leaders that were present. Oh and he speaks fluent English, French, German and a bit of Italian.

My advice for Poland getting invites in the future are: 1) don't vote idiot anti EU and anti world populists into power that barely speak English, 2) stop the constant infighting and present some stability.
